Barbara Deal named head of Cardiology
Barbara Deal, MD , was recently named head of Children's Memorial's Division of Cardiology, which includes a staff of 18 cardiologists. She is a world-renowned expert in the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias — abnormal rhythms of the heart — with particular interests in the condition after the repair of congenital heart disease, as well as the genetic basis of arrhythmias. Together with cardiovascular-thoracic surgeons Carl Backer, MD and Constantine Mavroudis, MD, she developed the arrhythmia surgery program at Children's Memorial, which receives referrals from around the world.
Deal is the Marvin E. Wodika Research Professor of Cardiology and a Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. She received her medical degree from Northwestern University and had her pediatric training at Children's Memorial.
“I am looking forward to an exciting period of growth in Cardiology at Children's Memorial, with expansion in outreach, technology and genetic research programs,” says Deal.
