Testing services
The majority of tests performed for both normal and abnormal pregnancies are the responsibility of the obstetrician, the maternal fetal medicine specialist, and specialized imaging offices.
With a few exceptions, the doctors at Children's Memorial rely on the obstetrical caregivers to provide necessary testing results prior to the consultation. A major exception is in fetal cardiology. Our pediatric cardiologists provide fetal echocardiograms at several locations to study the anatomy and function of the unborn baby's heart at the order of the obstetrical caregiver.
Limited ultrasounds to recheck specific areas, MRIs to better visualize fetal anatomy, and genetic testing of relatives are other examples of exceptions to the rule. More here on fetal MRI.
Please first check with your obstetrical caregiver about which tests are appropriate for your pregnancy and which tests have been already performed if you are in doubt.
