Arrhythmias / Electrophysiology
Our patients benefit from an internationally renowned arrhythmia care team with a long history of leading-edge care. Led by Sabrina Tsao, MD, our electrophysiology (EP) team treats children with all rhythm disturbances involving the heart's electrical system:
-
-
-
Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome
-
Bradycardia, heart block and conduction disorders
-
-
Autonomic dysfunction/postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (
POTS)
-
Ventricular tachycardia
-
Long QT syndrome/ion channelopathies
-
Family history of sudden death
Children with these conditions receive treatment in our state-of-the-art electrophysiology lab, which, apart from standard esophageal and electrophysiology study technology, is equipped with two types of electroanatomic mapping systems and ablation systems using radiofrequency and cryoablation energy.
Carl L. Backer, MD, has extensive experience in surgical implantation of pacemakers and defibrillations, and collaborates with Gregory Webster, MD, and Dr. Tsao in device implantation and resynchronization therapy in infants to young adults. Arrhythmia surgery is tailored specifically for each patient's unique anatomy and arrhythmia substrate.
