Fetal / Neonatal Cardiology
This specialized team of cardiologists and nurses provides prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease and counseling for expectant parents. Each year, more than 900 fetal echocardiograms are done at multiple sites.
An active partnership with Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH)'s Prentice Women's Hospital enables us to offer the best cardiac care for expectant mothers and newborns at Illinois' busiest birthing center.
Nina L. Gotteiner, MD, Director of Fetal/Neonatal Cardiology, has a full-time presence at Prentice. Working closely with Neonatology Divison Head Robin H. Steinhorn, MD, Dr. Gotteiner provides daily consultations and emergency echocardiograms and telemedicine to help Heart Center specialists address complex cardiac diseases with early intervention and seamless transfer of care. She also collaborates with NMH's Maternal-Fetal Medicine program.
In June 2012, Prentice will connect by bridge to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. Hospitalized mothers and babies will be steps away from each other as they heal.
Additional cardiac expertise is provided both on site and via telemedicine to several other Chicago area hospitals. Sulekha Kumar, MD, and Angira Patel, MD, offer fetal diagnostics at Central DuPage Hospital through the Children's Memorial at Central DuPage Hospital pediatric program.
