The Division of Infectious Diseases at Children's Memorial Hospital consists of specialists and scientists who provide comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for children with a wide variety of infectious diseases, including many that are rarely seen in this country.  Our physicians have unique backgrounds, different areas of interest, and are well-known for their significant research and academic contributions.  In fact, children throughout the nation are referred to our division for comprehensive inpatient and outpatient evaluation and treatment.

Our specialists provide excellence in clinical care, teaching, research and advocacy related to common infectious disease problems as well as many rare and unusual infections.  Some of these major illnesses treated include:

As faculty members of Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, our infectious diseases specialists also provide education and instruction to medical students, residents and fellows training in our institution. Our specialists are board-certified in pediatrics and in pediatric infectious diseases. Every year, members of our division share their research findings and clinical expertise at courses, hospitals and symposia across the country and around the world.

Our services

  • Our division runs the largest and most comprehensive pediatric and adolescent program in the Midwest. Established in 1987, our Pediatric and Adolescent HIV/AIDS Program cares for more children and adolescents than any other pediatric HIV service provider in the region.
  • In our Center for Kawasaki Disease, we have one of the largest and most active Kawasaki disease clinical and research programs in the U.S. and have cared for more than 1,600 children with Kawasaki disease.  Our clinician scientists are continuing their research efforts in finding the cause of this illness, improving treatment, and identifying factors that determine who is susceptible.
  • Our division offers travel immunizations for children traveling overseas in our International Travel Immunizations Program, one of the few in the Chicago area offering comprehensive, specialized pediatric travel health services.  The program provides appropriate immunizations for many communicable diseases, following the guidelines developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • In our International Adoptee Program, we also provide comprehensive medical evaluations, review of immunization records, screening tests according to the child's country of birth, and follow-up care for any infectious diseases the child may have contracted.

These outpatient specialty services are offered in our Children's Memorial Outpatient Center in Lincoln Park located at 2515 N. Clark Street in Chicago.  To schedule an appointment, please call 1.800.KIDS.DOC (1.800.543.7362).
