NICU visitor information

The Caldwells' son, Landon, spent his first four months of life in the NICU. In this essay, Julie shares her experience during those difficult times. Read more.

Visits by family and friends help the healing process. Parents/guardians are welcome 24 hours a day, seven days a week. General visiting guidelines are listed here. Please contact the charge nurse on your child's floor about cases that may need exceptions.

Healthy visiting relatives and friends

  • Are welcome every day from 10 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.
  • Must be over the age of 16, unless they are a sibling.
Send a card or gift to a patient through our gift shop.
  • Should check in at the main NICU desk before entering the patient's room.
  • May visit while the parents or guardians are not present, if parents/guardians have shared names with the NICU nurses.
  • Only two people at a time will be allowed at the child's bedside and should stay at the bedside of the child they are visiting.
  • Should be aware that they will be asked to leave the room during change of nursing shifts, physician rounds or if an emergency situation occurs.
  • Must be healthy/free from infection. Learn more about our current visitation restrictions.

Visiting siblings

  • A developmental specialist or nurse will prepare siblings for visits by talking about what they will see.
  • Visits must be prearranged with the bedside nurse and will be limited to 30 minutes, once a week.
  • Must have current immunization records.
  • Must be healthy/free from infection.
  • Must wash their hands and wear a mask before going into the patient's room.
  • Must be with an adult at all times while in the NICU.
