Caring for more than 15,000 children each year, our Division of Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine has the hospital's largest outpatient volume. It is also home to, in collaboration with neurosurgery and urology, one of the largest spina bifida centers in the country.

Ranked 17th in the nation by U.S.News & World Report for pediatric orthopaedics, Children's Memorial is only one of two hospitals in the Chicago metropolitan area that are ranked nationally among the Best Children's Hospitals.

The division provides state-of-the-art musculoskeletal care for children with:

  • Trauma
  • Congenital anomalies and developmental deformities of the shoulder, arm, forearm, spine (scoliosis, kyphosis and lordosis), pelvis, hip (congenital dislocation, Legg-Perthes disease) and lower limb and foot (clubfoot.)
  • Hand and upper extremity disorders —a monthly hand program is staffed jointly by orthopaedic surgery and plastic surgery. Children with congenital and acquired hand problems are evaluated in this specialty program.
