work with you and your primary medical team to:
- Manage difficult symptoms
- Help coordinate your child's medical care
- Interpret relative benefits and drawbacks when making
decisions about treatment options
- Identify what is important to your family and
communicate this to your child's primary medical team
- Support communication in complicated family
situations
- Provide spiritual and emotional support
- Provide referrals for continuation of care outside
the hospital and connect you with school and community resources
- When appropriate, assist with the physical and emotional aspects of the
end of life and facilitate and coordinate home hospice care
Our team
Our team offers unique expertise in addressing the issues of life-threatening
illness in children and includes:
- Doctors who specialize in recommending medication or
treatments to help relieve any pain or symptoms your child may experience.
- An advanced practice nurse (APN) with training in
life-threatening illness, symptom management and coordinating complex care
needs.
- A social worker available to provide counsel on
family issues, hospital discharge planning and coordination of school and
community resources.
- A chaplain who offers spiritual and emotional
support, counseling and coping strategies according to your faith and needs
and wishes.
- A child life therapist dedicated to enhancing the
coping skills and meeting the growth and developmental needs of your child and
their siblings.
- A pharmacist with in depth knowledge about medications used to control
symptoms.
