The Protective Services Team's goal is to ensure that all children served by the hospital are in a safe and healthy environment.

To report suspected child abuse and neglect in Illinois, call 1.800.25.ABUSE (1.800.252.2873)

The team provides optimal assessment and facilitates appropriate interventions for child victims of abuse and neglect. See how the Protective Services Team fits into the many programs of the Injury and Prevention Research Center.

The Protective Services Team brings together professionals from different disciplines to provide evaluation of and intervention services to children who may have been maltreated. Pediatricians, radiologists, social workers, a developmental and behavioral psychologist, a child protective services representative and other medical specialists and professionals collaborate to assure coordinated and continuous care for children at risk for, or victims of, abuse or neglect.

The team also:

  • Provides educational programs to professionals who care and advocate for children, to the families who use the hospital's services, and to the surrounding community to increase awareness and improve prevention and detection of abuse and neglect
  • Contributes, through research, new knowledge about the prevention, identification, and treatment of child maltreatment
  • Advocates for programs and interventions to help prevent abuse and neglect and to improve the outcome for its victims.

The goal of our programs is to prevent child maltreatment before it happens.

We have extensive, comprehensive clinical services available to patients and families where child maltreatment is suspected or has been identified. In addition, there are programs in place at the hospital to help support, educate, and protect families. The goal of these programs is to prevent child maltreatment before it happens.
