Audiologists are professionals experienced in diagnostic services facilitating early identification and intervention of children with hearing loss. At Children's Memorial Hospital, we specialize in working with children (newborn through teen) in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Our audiologists provide direct and consultative services in the following areas:
- Newborn infant hearing screenings
- Diagnostic evaluations
- Electrophysiologic testing - used for children who cannot be tested behaviorally due to young age, developmental delay or other medical conditions.
- Auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing
- Auditory steady state response testing
- Otoacoustic emission (OAE) testing - provides information regarding inner ear function, specificially the outer hair cells of the cochlea.
- Immittance testing - provides information regarding middle ear function and eardrum mobility.
- Tympanometry
- Acoustic reflex testing
- Behavioral audiometry (using two audiologists when appropriate) - various listening tasks performed in a sound-proof booth.
- Visual reinforcement audiometry (VRA)

Our audiologists carry a minimum of Illinois state licensure and certification through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
