Idriss Cardiac Registry- a wolrdwide educational resource
February 7, 2010 - Idriss Cardiac Registry, a library of more than 2,000 damaged or malformed hearts, is featured in the Chicago Tribune. The collection is an invaluable educational resource for physicians, fellows, residents, nurses and staff not only at Children’s Memorial but worldwide. Head of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgery Carl L. Backer, MD, says about the registry, “Sometimes you're talking about a couple millimeters, but a millimeter here or there is critical. Sometimes it's a crisscrossed heart, or an upstairs-downstairs heart. You have to know what you can take out, and what you have to leave in. That knowledge, to take it to the operating room, is invaluable."
