Early treatment of torticollis by rehabilitative specialists avoids future complications
The therapists in the physical therapy department of Children’s Memorial Hospital have been working with children diagnosed with torticollis and/or plagiocephaly for many years. Early referral to physical therapy is advantageous for the best outcomes and should be pursued once persistent head preference, head tilt, flattening of the head or muscle fibrosis is detected. Physical therapy collaborates with the departments of plastic surgery and orthotics in a multi-disciplinary clinic setting designed to provide the most comprehensive approach to treatment of this issue. Physical therapists are present at the clinics held at our Glenbrook and Westchester sites, however, ongoing therapy services are provided at all locations. We currently have physical therapy services in Lincoln Park, Glenview, Westchester (at Westchester Corporate Center) and New Lenox. To make an apointment with a physical therapist or any other rehabilitative specialist at any location, call 1.800.KIDS DOC (1.800.543.7362). For any other clinical questions, call Cheryl Patrick, Manager of PT at 708.836.8020 or Mary Weck, Clinical Coordinator of PT at 883.327.2788.
